A Different Kind of Forever

Twenty-six years ago today, I married my best friend.

Life had other plans for our marriage, but not for our friendship. Eleven years after our divorce, we’re still friends, and I think that’s something worth celebrating.

I’ve always found it interesting that the word “divorce” carries such a negative connotation. As though it’s automatically synonymous with failure or loss. But sometimes it’s neither. Sometimes it’s simply the closing of one chapter and the quiet beginning of another. Relationships evolve, and not every transformation has to be viewed as something broken.

Today, I’m grateful not only for the years we shared as husband and wife, but also that the path we traveled naturally led us back to where it all began… friendship.
